2008 Youth Training Academy
The Board of Directors of Focus On Future Leaders, Inc. is offering leadership training sessions for the youth of tomorrow ages 12-17. These sessions are geared toward preparing these students for leadership roles within their schools and community. Last year was our first year and was a great success as ten participants graduated this academy. This year’s individual sessions will begin on Saturday, April 5, 2008 and will be held on each consecutive Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon unless otherwise noted at the McCrorey YMCA. The sessions will be facilitated by area business leaders proficient in the topics being presented. A graduation ceremony will be held and certificates presented to the students completing the entire series of classes.
It is our goal to expand into a different geographic area of the City of Charlotte each year as we concentrate on preparing our youth for future success and greatness. We aspire to not only create and enhance leadership skills for our African American adults but also to demonstrate to our African-American youth that it is never too early to begin grooming yourself and planning for your future. We want to serve as role models and inspiration for our youth as they enhance their leadership skills, become active in their schools and neighborhoods, and make plans for their future.
Leadership is a set of actions and the demonstration of skills that helps build strong working relationships, inspire team collaboration, and influence others to produce great RESULTS. Focus On Future Leaders Inc. hosts its Annual Village Leader Awards Banquet each year to spotlight and award an individual who embodies these traits while demonstrating leadership in service that has significantly and positively impacted the African American community. The Village Leader of the Year Award not only recognizes an individual for service, but also serves as a vehicle to communicate to the Charlotte area community our values and mission.
The Sixth Annual Village Leader Banquet, presented by Focus on Future Leaders, Inc. (FOFL), will take place on
Saturday, June 21 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Zion Renaissance Complex banquet facility. Our banquet has become a tradition for FOFL alumni, families, community leaders and area residents to festively celebrate our community and its leaders. Sprinkled with African-American traditions, our banquet affords approximately 250 guests with a unique, multi-generational, cultural experience. We are thrilled to present Raichelle "Rai" Glover of Rai Glover Consulting as our banquet keynote speaker. Additionally, our banquet will feature the FOFL 2008 Leadership Development Program adult and youth participants as well as inspirational remarks from FOFL's 2008 Village Leader Award recipient, Rev. Dr. Dwayne Anthony Walker. Our master of ceremony is radio personality Jaye Delai of Charlotte's Q92.7 FM The Jaye Delai Show.
